My hamster died suddenly. What caused the yellow fluid and diarrhea?

Hello- our Syrian hamster, who we have had for just over a year (when we got her we were told she was 3 months old so we estimate she was about 1.5 years old) suddenly passed away today and I am concerned as to the reason. Not long before her death, maybe an hour or so before, we had her out and she was active and behaving normally. Sorry to hear about Midnight. Intestinal infections, liver disease, and other possibilities can lead to diarrhea. A veterinarian can probably perform a necropsy to determine a cause of death, if that would help. Sorry for your loss.
