My dog has mucousy stools. Should I give her a monthly dewormer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Cocker Spaniel | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 13 lbs

Do you recommend a monthly dewormer for Sophie who gets bouts of mucousy stools? The only treats she gets are the dreambone treats and the white dental treat sticks,.. and Busybone chew treats . She eats Pedigree wet food since she refuses all dry food. She had a UTI a month ago. (E-coli) that was treated, Besides that, she is happy and in no distress.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Sophie. A dog her age only needs to be dewormed every three months. I would give her a deworming treatment now, another in two weeks, and then every three months thereafter. I recommend Drontal. I hope this helps!
