Why is my cat shedding excessively with bald spots and dry skin?

Zoe is shedding excessively and has areas with almost. O hair on her sides. Her skin is dry and flakey. She does not seem to be grooming herself excessively. Should I be concerned? Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 16 years and 8 months old | 7.8 lbs

This can be a sign of thyroid disease or parasites like fleas. Even though Zoe doesn’t seem to be overgrooming allergies are still a possibility as well. I would recommend having your vet examine Zoe’s skin. Blood work might be recommended.
