My dog's curled nail made his paw red, swollen, and oozing. Is it infected?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dogs nail is tightly curled. It hasn’t gone into the bed yet but he’s been licking it and is now limping. The groomers have been cutting the nail down slowly. This morning I looked under his paw and it’s red swollen and looks like it’s oozing.

Thank you for using PetCoach. I recommend a veterinary visit for Max. It appears he may have an infection between his paw pads. This may require topical treatments such as soaks or medicated shampoo or sometimes systemic medications. Here is more info https://dermvettacoma.com/pododermatitis/
