Why aren't my new parakeets eating or drinking after 20 hours?

I just bought 2 parakeets and it has been about 20 hours that they have not eaten nor drank. what should I do?

It can take a day or so for new birds to settle into their environment until they are comfortable enough to eat, drink and resume normal activity. I would make sure they are kept in a quiet, draft-free area to give them a chance to settle in, relax, and get used to things. If they still aren't eating or drinking (or you notice there aren't eaten seeds in their cup-- some birds may not want to eat while being watched at first) after more than a day, or you see visible signs of illness, a vet checkup is best.

    This is not uncommon when birds get to a new home, they should usually start eating within 48 hours and slowly get used to their new environment. make sure you keep them in a relatively quite place for now.

    Yes, they should be eating and drinking by now. Maybe they are drinking when you are not looking or at night? Try measuring the water to see if they are drinking. Also, they might be eating as well. Did you check the bowl for,hulled seeds? They will Hull them and eat the seeds and leave the shells in the bowl. Dig around the bowl and see if their are empty shells. Try offering millet sprays hung in the cage or wet romaine leaves hung in the cage. Try scattering the seeds on the bottom of the cage. Try offering seed in more bowl and plates around the cage. Be sure to offer the same seed mix they are used to. Are there droppings in the cage? If droppings are not bright green or tiny and black, they might be eating. If they really are not eating at all, call the store you got them from as they will have a vet on staff or nearby the recommend and they can help you out.

Hello, I wanna ask something about my parrot. We just bought it yesterday and he was totally fine and talking but today he just don't do anything and doesn't and don't eat anything just a bite and stand at 1 place. Please tell me if anything's wrong
Unfortunately, with that information alone it doesn't really point to any one issue. If you just got your bird yesterday, it is likely he is still adjusting and may be scared or nervous. Making sure to keep him in a calm, quiet area of the house with access to food and water and letting him rest may help. If he continues to not want to move, eat, or drink for more than a day, then seeking veterinary care in person is best to check for health issues.

We just got a cockatiel yesterday he is quiet and he rarely eats/drinks and he always sleep. My mom says he will die. But he is actually energetic I think he is 6 months old. Sometimes he falter. What do I have to do to make him eat/drink?
It is possible your bird is eating and drinking while you aren't watching. He may be nervous in his new environment and feel uncomfortable eating while you are around. Be sure he is in a quiet environment where he can be left alone for periods to adjust to his new life. I would also try to find out what food he was eating before he came and get that exact food as some birds are very particular and don't like change/will refuse to eat new foods.

I brought 2 budgies and I cockatiel to my home today but they are not eating
Thanks for reaching out about your birds. Since they are new arrivals to your home, it is probably stress. Try offering some treats, as in bread or pasta, in a try to stimulate appetite. If continues to be anorexic, a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.

I bought my budgie two days ago and he is still not touching his food.He jumps around and plays with his toys but his bowl is full.I do not know what to do.
Your budgie is probably just stressed and trying to get used to his new environment. Try offering him a special treat, like a seed or a piece of fruit to entice him to eat. Even if he is not eating his food be sure to put fresh food in the cage each day. He may also only be eating when no one is watching him. Thank you for your question, and congratulations on your new pet! Budgies can be a very shy species, and this is often exaggerated when they are put into unfamiliar settings (such as a new house). I would recommend giving her a little more time to adjust, as long as she is eating and producing feces. You can find these at the bottom of the cage. Alternatively, you can also take her to a veterinarian for evaluation. This is a good idea from a wellness perspective, as it will slow you to gather information about her baseline health, and your vet can determine whether Frost is ill or not. They can also provide you with basic information on husbandry and nutrition as well. I hope that gives you a place to start, and good luck with your new bird!

If you just bought the birds yesterday they may still be a little stressed causing some fearful behavior and a reduction in appetite. Making sure their cage is in a calm, quiet place, is free from drafts or extreme temperatures and the food offered is appropriate for their needs is a good first step. If your bird continues to not eat, remains listless or has worsening symptoms, seeking veterinary care ASAP is best.

I just got a bird macaw and he hasn't been eating for 3 hours now what to do
If he just arrived in your home, then give him a little longer to adjust. These birds tend to be very wary when they are in a new environment and will often take weeks before they are fully themselves. For now, I would give him some space. Usually, when we get a new pet, we are interested in them and give them a lot of attention. This can be very intimidating for a bird, so the more space you can give him, the better. If you can, leave him alone for two hours in a well-lit room. Junk food for parrots are usually fruits, nuts and seeds. They also tend to like cooked oatmeal, rice, lentils and beans. You can have this available along with the formulated pelleted food and see if he eats any of it. Ideally, you want most of his diet to be the pelleted food, because this contains all the nutrients they need. Once he is eating good, start reducing the junk food and increasing the pellets. My parrots are not eating anything from 2-3 days .thet have become quiet . Reason?
Unfortunately, not eating and being listless are very vague symptoms of illness. Anything from being overheated, to having internal parasites, GI upset, underlying illness, etc can be a potential cause. If they have not eaten anything in several days, it is best to seek veterinary care immediately as by the time birds show symptoms of illness they are usually pretty sick. Until you can get to the vet, separating them into warm hospital cages that are kept in a quiet, dark area with easy access to food and water may help, however seeking veterinary care is needed.
