My cat's face is swollen, itchy, and peeling. Allergies or parasites?

Last week, the side of my cat's face started to look swollen and it was wet. But it was a small spot at first, and now (based on the pictures) it's all over his neck. He's in pain and he feel itchy almost all the time. I thought he got into a fight and that's how he got the wound, so I tried to treat it but it's not working. In fact, his condition got worsened. Is this allergic reaction? His skin started to peel off, I'm scared it would cause an infection by parasites. How can I treat him?

This could be from parasites or allergies - a wound seems a little less likely. I would recommend having Springler examined by a veterinarian. Oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications might be recommended. I wouldn't recommend trying to use anything topically unless prescribed by your vet.

It sounds like the kitten should be examined by a vet to determine why he has a swollen face. He could have an allergy or an infection and may need medications to treat. Your vet can also determine if he needs to be treated for scabies. I don't recommend treating him unless he is examined by a vet first.

Facial swelling can be caused by an allergic reaction to something such as an insect sting or spider bite, an abscess from an injury, or even an abscessed tooth (unlikely in such a young cat). I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Depending on what the diagnosis is will determine what medications are recommended. Allergic reactions can cause swelling, however if the area is also blistering or oozing debris it is possible there could be an abscess (infection), virus, burn, ulceration, or other issue causing her symptoms. It would be best to bring her into your vet to have the area examined, especially if the swelling is in the face/mouth.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be due to allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergie

She is a cutie! This could be from an insect/spider bite that has cause a local infection/abscess which is why is has started to swell. This could potentially be a cancerous mass that has caused an inflammatory reaction as well. Since it has recently become swollen, I would strongly recommend for your vet to take a look at it. Your vet will be able to aspirate the mass or swelling if needed. They can even take X-rays if needed if they are concerned about sinus or honey involvement. They will also be able to start her on some antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory if needed. I hope this helps!

First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). My male cat Lucky came in late. His lower jaw is swollen. He’s actually sleeping now, I’m a wreck. I administered Pet Armor deworming pills to all my cats; could he be allergic or too much piperazine? Didn’t see bite marks; I do live in forest.
This does not look like an allergic reaction which could come from a systemic medication. This lump/growth should be ideally examined by your veterinarian to have a definitive diagnosis. Your vet will examine it and possibly perform with an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy. Differentials would include skin cyst, an insect bite, the result of a trauma, infections or benign or malignant type of tumors (very unlikely given the age). Place an e-collar (cone) on Casper to prevent further scratching or rubbing. Have him examined by your veterinarian today or tomorrow at the latest. He likely needs antibiotics for possible infection. If he is itchy, a steroid may provide relief. Your vet can recommend an appropriate dose of Benadryl to prevent any itch from returning. Rule out parasites, skin infection (bacterial or yeast), allergies, foreign body as potential causes for the condition. If conventional treatment does not help, consider a skin biopsy to submit for pathology to diagnose inflammatory or neoplastic (cancerous) conditions.
