How to comfort my clingy dog in heat and keep her safe from mating?

How can I best comfort my dog ( she turned 2 on the 26th Feb) whilst on heat. We don't want to mate her yet. She's very clingy and attached to me. I think the cycle started on Wednesday or Thursday last week.

This is quite normal behaviour especially during a first heat cycle and will pass over 1-2weeks. I would be cautious about starting any new 'comfort' routines as they may be very difficult to break away from when the heat stops naturally. Plenty of exercise (in confined areas away from intact males) will help to keep her ocuppied
