Why is my German Shepherd's stomach gurgling and not eating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 110 lbs

My German shepherd has slept great through out the night but his stomach has been making very loud gurgling sounds for the past 5 or 6 hours. Hasn't ate or drank much at all, so im wondering if theres anything that I can do? Or should i be worried? When i took him out this morning all he really did was eat grass, is that a bad sign?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Leo. Based on your description, it sounds like he is experiencing some gastrointestinal upset. It is generally safe to withhold food for 12-18 hours to allow his GI tract to rest. This is assuming he does not have any underlying medical issues. Be sure to provide plenty of water so that he does not become dehydrated. If he still refuses to eat or develops vomiting and/or diarrhea, then he should see his veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
