Why is my cat suddenly scared, jumpy, and hiding in corners?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 10 months old | 10 lbs

My cat seems very scared and jumpy, she sticks low to the ground and goes into whatever corner she can find, but typically sticks to behind my bed. She shows no signs of pain but is very aware of touch. Note: she has siblings that lives inside with her and has to issue with them, and this is the only time she's showed this behavior.

It sounds like something is making J-Cat nervous. I think I’m understanding that she has housemates but typically she gets along with them. It could be something outside that she heard or something she saw inside that is making her anxious. Even though she doesn’t seem obviously painful if this behavior continues I’d recommend seeing your veterinarian to rule out pain as a cause.
