Can my 11-week puppy travel safely? Will it ruin potty training?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 19 days old | 14 lbs

My puppy is 11 weeks old. She gets her last vaccines next week. Is it safe for us to travel to visit family? There will be one 3 year old dog there. That dog is up to date on all her vaccines. The road trip is 4 hours, then we will be with family until the next day then drive back. I'm worried about erasing the progress she's made in potty training so far. What can we do to help her continue her progress in house-training? Or should I just expect to have to start over?

Hello. A puppy should be vaccinated once a month until 16 weeks of age. Until then, disease susceptibility is possible. For the most part, she should be OK to travel, but if you do stop for potty breaks, make sure Luna does not pick up anything on the ground & wipe down her feet with a damp paper towel before getting back in the car. Try to continue her routine at your destination as best as possible, but a relatively short trip like this should not ruin any house training lessons Luna has learned so far. Have a good trip & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
