My hamster has duct tape on fur. How to safely remove it at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 17 days old | 0.5 lbs

My hamster got duct tape on her back. We got some of it off but it seemed to hurt her to pull the rest of her fur from it. Will it come off on it's own? Is there a safe way to get the rest off or do we need to take her to the vet?

You need to put oil on the fur where the duct tape is attached, you can use mineral oil or Vaseline, if you don't have any olive oil will also do. then slowly and gently try to separate the duct tape. it may take some time and patience but it will come off eventually.
