Why is my cat sleeping more with a hard lump and scab on her chest?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 17 days old

Cat had an enlarged stomach right behind front paws (chest area). This has subsided to leave a small hard mass in the centre of her chest. She has not shown any discomfort yet, though is sleeping a lot more than usual. There is a decent sized scab as well that I have just noticed. Any advice on possible care over Easter and suggested urgency (important see a vet to will go away on its own) would be much appreciated.

I am concerned that Trixie is sleeping more than usual, and it could be that the lump has made her ill. If she has a scab over this lump, I would be wondering if she had an abscess. An abscess is a localized pocket of infection, and it can make her systemically ill. I do think it's important that she sees a vet, and I would take her into one this weekend. I hope this helps.
