How to care for multiple outdoor cats & kittens: health, spay, shots?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi. I have 7 outdoor cats; 1 mama cat, 2 nine-month old cats, and 4 one-week old kittens. I don't know where to start when it comes to taking care of their health. From vaccines to flea protection to neutering the mama cat. It started out with the just the mama cat showing up in our backyard so we started taking care of her but she kept giving birth so 2 years later here I am with 7 cats (family is keeping them all, we feed, occasionaly bathe and let into home daily). P.S. other 6 cats are boys

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cats. I would start by taking the two 9 month old kittens to the vet. They can be started on vaccines, set up appointments for surgery to have them spayed/neutered and discussed deworming as well as flea and tick prevention. You can ask when to have the kittens seen. Deworming usually starts around two weeks of age. After they are weaned, the mama cat can be spayed. Then the kittens can be vaccinated starting at 6-8 weeks of age. I hope this information helps!
