My dogs ate doxycycline pills. What should I do if vet is closed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 69 lbs

My dogs ate 5-6 doxycycline hycate 100mg. I do know which dog ate more or less. The bottle was chewed up and pills were on the floor. My vet was closed too. What should I do? Thanks

I’m assuming both dogs are about the same weight. If so the doxycycline could cause vomiting or upset stomach but there would be no other major concerns. If one of your dogs is smaller you should repost your question. Be sure to let your vet know and to get a refill so the prescription can be finished.

Doxycycline is a commonly used medication in dogs and would be difficult to overdose. It can cause upset stomach (vomiting and diarrhea), and if this lasts longer than 24 hours, Bronc should see a vet for symptomatic treatment.
