Recently I've noticed a red/purple spot in my Great Oyrenees left eye (only his left). His behavior seems unchanged (eats well and very active). However i do not want to disregard this and my local vet are super unhelpful. Do I need to be concerned?
Hello. This looks like hyphema, the presence of blood in the anterior chamber of the eye. This can occur from anything like a simple trauma to the eye, to cancer, so treatment really depends on the cause. If there is any chance there was some trauma to the eye ( being hit with a ball could do this ), then treatment is nothing & the blood will reabsorb over time. If this is due to an infection or something more serious, then it may need to be treated. I am not sure why your veterinarians are unhelpful, perhaps you need to find someone else. I can tell you that the rest of the eye looks quiet & non-painful, so it is not an emergency, but I would have this evaluated at your earliest convenience. Thanks for contacting Boop by Petco.
