Is 1 oz per pound of water enough for my growing puppy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 22 days old | 23.4 lbs

Do puppies need more water than adult dogs? I've read dogs can need about 1 oz per pound of body weight every day, but is that true for puppies as well?

Hello, puppies in general have a higher demand of water per body weight. It does not always mean that your puppy is going to drink as much or more water than an adult dog in total volume, but the puppy will drink more water per pound than an adult dog. This need is also dependent on amount of activity and age of the puppy. Hope this helps and best of luck.
