Why does my whippet have skin changes on ears, chest, and belly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Whippet | Female | spayed

Hello, just wondering what this could be on my whippet. She has had this problem around her ears and chest for a few months. people told me it’s because of the sun. Now she has this on her belly. No scratching. I’m not sure if it’s all linked or separate.

The pigment variations on Ella's chest and in front of her ear looks normal. The skin on her abdomen looks as though it may be a bit thin, which can occur secondary to a variety of diseases processes. These may include skin infections, parasites, Cushing's disease, hypothyroidism, or many other possible conditions. Since Ella is not itchy and presumably not experiencing any other concerns, you can continue to monitor her skin for changes until her annual exam. However, should she become itchy or experience further skin changes, Ella may need to make a trip to the vet. I hope this helps and that all goes well!
