Hot grease in my dog's ear: red, swollen, droopy. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 65 lbs

Hot grease from my stove top fell and landed on my dog and she screamed and shook her head, upon closer inspection it looks like it went INSIDE her ear, it's red and a little swollen, and her face is a little droopy. But she doesn't seem like its hurting her now and she isnt whinning. I'm not sure what to do.

Ouch, poor Gypsy! Keep a close eye on her tonight, and if her ear is still red and swollen in the morning, have her seen by a vet. You can try a cool compress on the outside of her ear canal if she appears painful. Do not try to flush the ear, that will make things worse. Best of luck.
