Why is my dog tucking his tail, panting, and wobbling his back legs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 9 months old | 108 lbs

My dog has lately been walking with tail curled between his legs. That's not normal. When he chases the ball it's in normal position straight down. He's also been panting quite a bit lately. He has fistulas but they don't look any worse than they did a year ago. His back legs seems to wobble as well

I would recommend a recheck and possibly pelvic xrays by your vet. The tucked tail and awkward/weak gait indicates pain or weakness in the hindlimbs or pelvis and may require additional treatment. It would be advisable to receheck the fistulas during this visit to rule out deeper abscesses developing also
