My kitten has a worm. How can I identify it before the vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 2 months and 29 days old | 5 lbs

Just pulled this worm out of my kittens butt. I am planning on taking him to the vet once I get home from work but would like to know ahead of time if theres a way to identify what find of worm it is so I can get him on a dewormer ASAP

Hello, and thanks for your question. In the picture that appears to be a tapeworm segment. I recommend that you throw that in a zipoc bag and bring it to the vet with you, along with a fresh fecal sample from Bonsai. The vet can confirm that it's a tapeworm, and they will also check the stool sample to see if there are any other microscopic eggs from any other intestinal parasites such as roundworms or hookworms, which are also very common. Hope this helps! :-)
