Can my dog get an expired rabies shot while she's nursing puppies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 6 months old

I have this dog named Chappy. She's a mixed breed large dog. She just had babies last March 2019. Her anti rabies had expired. I'm planning to have her anti-rabies shot next week. Is it okay? I need your advice. Thank you so much for your help!

Hello, and thanks for your question about Chappy. Yes, I would definitely get Chappy's rabies vaccine boostered as soon as possible to keep her current, even if she's still nursing those puppies. Since she's not technically current on her rabies, just make sure she doesn't encounter any strangers (either people or pets) where she could be at risk of biting or being bitten, until you're able to get her in for her shot next week. Hope this helps!
