Pet's info: Dog | Multi-Colored Standard Poodle | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 1 day old | 30 lbs
I have a standard poodle puppy (Freddy) and am trying to figure out the best diet for him. I’ve done some research and it seems like some people think poodles do better with grain-free diets; others advocate home-cooked meals only (with a balance of macro/micro nutrients and plenty of fiber + protein). freddy had to be on a bland diet for a few days because of a GI upset, and he really loved that (got way more excited for mealtimes) but his tummy didn’t like it. What should I be feeding him?

I do not recommend grain free. Grain free allergies are actually very rare in dogs, and vets are seeing an increase in dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs who are on a grain free diet. The FDA is investigating that link. There is also no proof grain free diets are beneficial for dogs. I would be feeding Freddy a puppy formulated food. Brands I recommend Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I feed my own dogs Iams, and they love it. I hope this helps!
