Why are my senior dog's eyes weeping frequently all of a sudden?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 years and 2 months old | 52 lbs

My healthy 10 year old hound has always had occasional eye discharge, which my vet said was nothing. Recently he has developed very frequent weeping from both eyes.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Bailey. Yes occasional eye discharge can be normal, but very frequent weeping from both eyes is not. It could be he has an eye infection. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning for a health check. Any eye problem needs to be checked out promptly, as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I hope this helps!
