Why is my guinea pig's eye still pussing after ear infection meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 3 months old

My Guinea pig is a male and 4 years old. His right eye has been pussing for at least a month now. Two weeks ago he was diagnosed with a left inner ear infection and just finished his meds for that today. The vet said the pussing should get better after he medication for his ear infection and it didnt. Any ideas on what is causing this?

Thanks for reaching out about Plunkers. A bacterial culture of the eye discharge can help determine which antibiotic might be appropriate. Clean the eye with a warm damp cloth, gently. Monitor appetite and water consumption. Additional diagnostics might be needed. Good luck.
