Why is my old dog whining, breathing hard, and struggling to lie down?

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Male | 15 years old

Hi my staff is 15 years old his keeps whining/crying and when he lays down he keeps his bum in the air for about 5 mins before he lays down properly he also breathes deep can you let me know what could be the problem please

If Alfie is laying his front legs down with his rear legs extended in a 'play bow' position this could be a sign of abdominal pain. He could also be having pain in his rear legs that makes him unable to lay down easily. At his age I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian sooner rather than later to look for a source of pain and to prescribe medication to help.
