My dog licks his paw and is overweight. How to help him safely?

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Male | neutered | 4 years and 1 month old | 35 lbs

My Roomba keeps licking and chewing his back paw I looked I don't see any redess or swelling he lets me look what should I do do I need to go see the vet and aslo he weighs in at 35 pounds please help me can you tell me how to put him on a diet without hurting him I was told if I don't do it right he could get very sick he's only 4 years old PLEASE HELP ME

Yes Roomba does need to lose weight by the look of the pictures and this weight could be aggravating any injury he has also. I would recommend a full physical exam if you cannot see an obvious injury to rule out abscessses etc. I would also recommend starting him on a specialist weight loss diet - my preferred range is hills metabolic which promotes healthy fat loss whilst preserving lean muscle and fitness, whilst also feeding a reasonable amount so he does not feel overly hungry. Your vet tech can help you work out the correct feeding volume, monthly weight checks are then recommended so it can be adjusted as required
