My cat suddenly lost hair and has a red, scabby spot. What is it?

The hair in the photographed area was gone one morning a couple nights ago and that red mark appeared at the same time. This morning the red marks became more red so I thought I'd seek advice, what has happened and is my cat alright? Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 years and 3 months old

It looks like scabbing may be on Wizard's head. This can be from irritation from his ear or even eye. If he is trying to rub or scratch one or the other he can be getting this spot.
