My puppy swallowed a pork bone. Will stomach acid break it down, or vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 4 months and 20 days old | 55 lbs

Hi, last night around 10pm my 5 month old boxer puppy got the circular bone from a pork chop & swallowed it whole before we could get it away. He’s been acting fine today & still eating & playing & pooping. But he hasn’t passed it yet. So I was wondering if the stomach acid will break it down or if I need to take him to the vet & get X-rays or what should I do?

Stomach acid won't break down the bone, and it can take up to 72 hours for it to pass. If Olaf isn't showing any signs, keep an eye on him for now. If you see vomiting, blood in his feces, diarrhea, lethargy, anorexia, or the bone hasn't passed in 72 hours, then I would take him into the vet. I hope this helps!
