My puppy is gaining weight. Is it normal or am I overfeeding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog is a 4 1/2 month old husky/pit mix. She seems to be gaining some weight and I’m not sure if it’s her getting fat or if she’ll thin out with a growth spurt? She exercises quite a bit but eats American Journey and they reccomeng 5 1/2 cups of that food a day which seems like way too much for her. Should I cut down portions and maybe instead of leaving the bowl down feed her multiple times a day?

I would feed her according to the instructions on her bag of food, but I would divide it into three equal portions to feed her three times a day. I don't worry about puppies being fat, especially if they are very active. They are growing, and they don't need to be a diet. I hope this helps!
