My dog's new symptoms after tumor removal. Is it time to say goodbye?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 9 years and 7 months old | 44 lbs

Hi My staffy Sid had his balls removed along with a large tumour about 5 months ago. 2 months ago he started getting lumps come up on his body some of them bleeding slightly. The past week I have noticed a bit of lameness in his back legs. Today he is just standing with his head down and cries when he lays down. His breathing has also been not great and he is off his food. I think the cancer has spread throughout his body and he needs putting to sleep can you give me some guidance please.

Hi, what you describe is a possibility but it is impossible for me to say that Sid needs to be put to sleep without checking him over. I would have him seen by your vet keeping in mind that is quality of life has not been great recently and that we surely don’t want to see him suffer if cancer has indeed spread in his body.
