Is neosporin safe to use on a dog wound or do I need to ask my vet for a antibacterial cream? Nothing major just a rash on her foot. The rash already been looked at and there’s no signs of parasites but the site is taking a while to heal so I’m trying to help the process of her healing. Suggestions please.

Hi there. Generally speaking, Neosporin is okay to use in dogs - but if you want to be extra safe, you could always get an antibiotic spray labeled for use in dogs, like Nutri-Vet or Vetericyn. Your local pet store should have some options like this, if you want to pick something up.

That looks quite red and irritated! Although quite safe on superficial wounds, dogs groom and ingest most of the topical ointment you apply and therefore should be used only under direct veterinary supervision and if there are no other appropriate options. Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed. I would take Brownie into the vet this weekend to have this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.
