What's this red circle on my dog's belly? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 60 lbs

My dog has seasonal allergies and are usually very bad at this time of year. I just found this weird red circle on his belly and have no idea what it is?

Unfortunately, without examining Meek, I can't definitively tell you the cause of these red lesions. Possible causes include a skin infection, bruising (from an injury or low platelets), or black fly bites. If the lesions persist through the weekend, I recommend taking him to the vet on Monday. That said, should the lesions dramatically worsen through the weekend or if you find new lesions consistent with bruising elsewhere on Meek's body, it would be worth taking him to an emergency vet over the weekend, as this could indicate more serious conditions.
