My 3lb puppy took dewormer for 5-25lbs. Is this an overdose?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 3 days old | 3 lbs

Hello I gave my puppy who'd about 3 lbs the dewormer for 5 -25 lbs. I grabbed the one that said small dogs and puppies. Will this harm my puppy? > rescued the puppy from craigslist and was going to use low cost vet services this month for shots. The puppy has not been deformed and was taken from its mother at about 2/3 weeks. He just ate the dewormer with his afternoon meal.. he's acting fine and has no symptoms at this time.

Wormers are generally considered very safe medications and although some vomiting or diarrhea may develop this should resolve uneventfully. Some types can cause tremors and neurological signs and you should contact an emergency vet and inform them of the brand, timing and dosage if you notice any unusual symptoms
