How to treat my dog's persistent leaky eyes and tear stains?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 10 months and 10 days old | 16 lbs

I have a 10 month old rescue I've had for 8 months, Brownie. She's a mix, poodle, Carin terrier. I have her groomed every 2 months she does shed a little. She's always had leaky eyes. Under her eyes are constantly wet. I wipe them with a warm washcloth 4x a day at least. I've given her Benadryl and eye lubricant drops. Nothing helps. She's miserable. Help!

What a cutie! If you've not yet had a vet examine her eyes, please do so. She may have an eye condition that is contributing to the issue. If her eyes have gotten a clean bill of health from your vet, try this: Many people have had success with these treats. Thanks for asking PetCoach!

    Tear staining is only a cosmetic problem and not really a medical issue. I would not switch the diet is Bela is doing well on what she is currently eating. You are better off just wiping the eyes with medicated pads or feeding a supplement like Angel Eyes. ( https://angelseyesonline.com/ ) Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hi and thank you for using Boop by Petco. Many light colored dogs will have tear staining under their eyes. Be sure that Sharon isn't rubbing at his eyes, has red eyes or other indications of eye infections. Keeping his face wiped down with a warm wash cloth will help prevent buildup of tears. You can try distilled water or see about adding angel eyes to her diet as this helps. If these do not fix it, you can see your vet needs to prescribe another round of antibiotics to help. Once the hair is stained, the new hair generally has to grow out before it all disappears though

How do I clean my puppy's tear stains? She's white so her stains are prominent. & when her hair grows out it tends to get matted. I'm trying to keep them clean but they're so stubborn. I've tried warm water. We've even bought these wipes specialized
I know that this can be frustrating. There are a few things you can try. There is a product called Angels' Eyes that comes in an oral form. It does have to be given on a consistent basis in order to see a difference. You can also use a contact solution with boric acid to reduce the staining. Do not use boric acid in any other form around the eyes as it can cause irritation or damage to the eyes. The other thing would be to have a groomer shave the hair from that area. This will keep her face cleaner and with less hair, there will be less staining.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. A safe product that works well to clean the tear staining around a dog's eyes is called Angel's Eyes wipes. You should be able to purchase these online. Just a reminder to never put any harsh chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide near your dog's eyes, as this can be very damaging and painful. Hello. The most common cause of tear staining in dogs is blocked tear ducts. Often a course of a tetracycline medication can help resolve this. You will need to obtain this from your veterinarian. Two ways to try & remove the stains naturally, if the ducts are not blocked, are to use the probiotic, Fortiflora & a product told to me by a client. It is a tear stain remover made by NaturVet. You can see their products at https//www.naturvet.com. It can take a minimum of 2-3 weeks for the staining to resolve, but it is worth trying the probiotics & the topical NaturVet. If this does not work, Sky should see her veterinarian in case the tear ducts are blocked. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Juliette! There is pigment normally present in tear film and saliva. If she is having excessive tearing and is either using her paws to rub her eyes (like a grooming cat) or is licking her paws that can explain the discoloration. The most common reason for a sudden onset of excessive tearing and licking of the paws is allergies (allergies can start anytime). You are right that the tear staining can be normal in some breeds and there is nothing that can be done. I would get Juliette in to your Vet for an evaluation of her eyes and skin. Watch her closely to see if she is pawing her face or is licking her feet. If the staining is on her back feet then you have your answer, she is licking them. Your vet can prescribe medications for her eyes and something to stop the itch. There are not products that work consistently to remove the staining. You will have to stop the inciting cause then wait for the hair to grow out and get her groomed. I wish yo

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. Mutton is a breed that we typically see the problem of tear staining. It is not harmful but cosmetically, it can be unsightly. There are supplements that have been known to reduce the brown stains. I would recommend a supplement such as Angel Eyes or Ocubright, which can reduce the brown staining that you are seeing after several months of being on the supplement. Either one of these can be found online or at your local pet store. I hope that this helps! Thank you for using Boop by Petco. Mini is so adorable! You can us a soft cloth and water to wipe the crust away. There is a product called Angel Eyes that can be used for the tear staining. This product can be purchased at any Petco pet supply store or online. There are lots of other products out there, but this is one that I have used and like. The key is keeping the eyes clear of debris and regular grooming to maintain the hair so it does not collect more debris. Thank you again for your question and I hope this information was helpful.

Sizzy here has dark circles around her eyes which wont go away, what could be the reason?
Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. The dark circles are staining of the fur from discharge/tears from the eye. You can get the eyes checked to make sure that they can close properly, and there aren't any medical problems that are causing Sizzy to produce more tears, or the tears to not flow down into the nose like normal. Lots of dogs however have no problems and just have tear staining, so it could be fine. I recommend discussing this with your vet next time you are there for a check up. Best of luck with Sizzy!
