Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | spayed | 10 years and 9 months old | 5.5 lbs
My 11 year old, female Pomeranian is have extreme discomfort around her vaginal area. Her skin in the area has changed from pink to black, and there seems to be some black gunk around it as well. I have taken her to a vet who thought it was allergies so we started her on a half dose of children’s Benadryl (she weighs 5-6 lbs) and that only calms her, it doesn’t not prevent the issue.

The black coloring is a pigment that the skin produces when it is chronically inflamed. Most often the skin gets like this when there is an untreated bacterial or yeast infection of the skin. I suggest you try wiping the area 2-3 times per day with these medicated pads. If no improvement after a week or so, then get her back to the vet as they may have to do some testing of the skin. No matter what you do to treat the area it will not get better if she continues to lick it.
