My female dog in heat is being hurt by male dog. What can I do?

we have a little dog 5 years old my sisters boyfriend moved in he has a very big pitbull they didn't get along at first but after a while everything was great until my little went into heat now the big bog is hurting the little one all day long and I'm very worried he is going to injure her or worse he is crying all the time I'm trying to keep them apart but everyone just thinks it's funny how can they stand her crying out 25 times a day getting hurt I don't know what to do can you help thanks. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 5.5 lbs

All you can do is keep them separated - best to take one of them to another location (a family or fiend's house). I suggest you have them spayed/neutered (or at least one of them) or this will be an ongoing problem.
