My dog is bleeding after heat, is it a miscarriage or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | unspayed

Hi my girl dog has just been on heat. My husband was looking after her whilst I was at work and he caught my boy and girl tied together. Now I spoke to a vet who said because my boy is 9 months his sperm may be blank so to keep a eye on her. This morning I came downstairs and she had some clot on the floor she is ok ie eating drinking She’s a french bulldog so sleeps a lot anyway as does my boy. Should I be worried this is a miscarriage or is this normal after heat Thank you

This doesn't sound like a miscarriage. The blot clot is probably just normal from the heat cycle. I would not be worried about it unless bleeding persists. As a side note, a puppy at 9 months old is probably fertile; rarely are they "blank". They become sexually mature and able to breed a female at about 6-7 months of age. I suspect that she will get pregnant. If you don't want this mating I suggest you speak to your vet about a mis-mating injection.
