My senior dog is bleeding from a tumor and in pain. ER vet now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 65 lbs

My mature (15yrold) pitbull-mix, is bleeding near the site of one of his old tumors (he had surgery there 2 years ago, and after a few rounds of Palladia he was declared cancer free). He is in pain, and can't get comfortable (moving around every 5 or so minutes). Our doctor is out of the office for another 5 hours. Should we take him to the emergency vet or can he wait? Also, can we give him dyprone (and if so how much) to ease his pain in the interim?

Oh no, poor Simba. I would definitely take him into the ER vet now. I legally cannot recommend giving him any pain medication, so it's best he's treated now by a vet rather than waiting. I hope this helps.
