My dog was bitten by a groundhog. Should I worry if she's vaccinated?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 38 lbs

My dog was bitten by a groundhog outside our home tonight in her lip and chin area. We just want to know if we should be concerned. She is up to date on all shots, but just want to be extra careful.

It's good Rosie is up to date on all her shots, rabies would be the most important one in this case. I'd have her seen by a vet in the morning. I would be concerned this could become infected, and she will need antibiotics to prevent an infection. Tonight, wash the bite marks with warm water and antiseptic soap. I hope this helps!
