My cat's back legs are weak, he walks drunk. Why are symptoms back?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Male | neutered | 18 lbs

My cat Ray was recently at the Vet because he was having trouble with his back legs. He looked drunk when walking and couldn't jump down. They gave him a steroid shot and she said it would last for 3 weeks. Coming to the end of the 3 week period he seems to be walking drunk like again. They did full blood work and everything came back normal. I'm just wondering what's causing the leg weakness and hesitance to jump?

Ray could have a problem with his hips and/or back. Given that he is returning to the same symptoms, I think further testing is needed. I'd make an appointment to take him back into the vet, and I would discuss x-rays as a next step. Best of luck.
