My senior Dachshund has a worsening sore under skin. What to do?

Hello, my senior daschund has this sore under her skin - we brought to a vet and she said to just monitor it - and it’s getting worse. Any ideas what this might be? Anything I can put on it! It seems to be bothering her. Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | spayed

She appears to have a deep infection on her skin. I am not sure that a topical ointment would be effective at this point. She will likely need oral antibiotics. It is a little difficult to tell from the picture, but the wound appears close to her lower jaw. Occasionally a wound in this location can be the result of severe dental disease.
