My vet has prescribed the liquid form of phenobarbital for my dog seizures. My dog suffers from focalized seizures. My parents did not give my dog her phenobarbital until 11:30 a.m. this morning so that means at 11:30 p.m. she needs to take her other dose for the day. How can I get my dog on a schedule of giving her one dose at 6 a.m. and then her last dose at 6 p.m.? It seems like I would be overdosing her if I started the 6 a.m. schedule after just giving it to her at 11:30 p.m.

It may take a few days, but you can certainly get Tootsie on a 6am/6pm schedule. Try moving her dose about 1 hour earlier each day until you reach your desired schedule. With twice daily medications, it is ideal to continue giving the doses 12 hours apart, but in reality, giving a dose 10-13 hours apart is also completely reasonable. I hope this helps and that all goes well for Tootsie!
