Puppy dewormed, has diarrhea & worms. How long to recover & protect other dog?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 16 days old | 2 lbs

I just got a t cup mixed Chihuahua he is believed to be 6weeks or older. He hasn’t had any treatment. Today I have him a 6 way shot and also gave him liquid dewormer in some food. He has pooped out 2 worms so far and has diarrhea. How long will it take for him to get over the diarrhea and the worms. I also have a older dog almost 2 who do I keep her from possibly getting the worms?!

You will need to give Peanut another dose of the deworming treatment in two weeks to kill all the worms. The diarrhea should pass in a few days. To prevent your older dog from getting worms, you need to deworm her as well.
