Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 7 years and 3 months old | 55 lbs

7year old male pit bull, threw up water two days ago twice and also did not eat all day, yesterday ate some rice and dry food but developed diarrhea. Today drinks water fine (small amounts at a time) eats mashed potatoes and boiled chicken (small amounts at a time) holds food and water down, acts like his normal self but still has diarrhea (orange in color). Should I continue with bland diet longer and monitor?

Hello, sorry to hear about Ronan. Yes, you should continue a bland diet for 3-5 days total. If his diarrhea is not improving, or if he develops blood in his diarrhea then he should be seen by a veterinarian as anti-diarrhea medications may be recommended. Common causes of this is often some form of dietary indiscretion but other causes may include a parasitic infection or inflammation of his GI tract. If Ronan is not improving then have him evaluated by his veterinaian sooner. Hope this helps and best of luck.
