Why does my active dog's leg shake when sleeping or standing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 4 months old | 60 lbs

My dog is healthy and happy but his hind, left leg shakes sometimes. Sometimes it happens while hes sleeping and sometimes when hes standing up. Is it something I should be concerned about? It never seems to bother him....is not painful. He takes a glucosamine supplement daily. He is a fairly heavily worked bird dog and goes pretty hard.

Although the leg doesn't seem painful by far the most common cause of the shaking you're describing would be a leg injury or arthritis. I would recommend having your vet examine Rook's leg. They might recommend taking an x-ray, especially if Rook is stoic during the exam as well.
