My Bulldog has a resistant skin infection not responding to treatment.

Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Female | spayed | 65 lbs

I have a 7 yr old female English Bulldog suffering from MRSP, skin bumps, lesions, hair loss. I've been treating it with Pharmaseb baths and spray. I'm losing the battle. I have a pathology report. The bacteria is Staphylocolccus pseudintermedius 2+, resistant to oxacillin, and the lab results show that it is only "sensitive" to the following antibiotics: Amikacin (ug/ml) Tetracycline (<=1 ug/ml) Mupirocin (<=1 ug/ml) Chloramphenicol (8 ug/ml) Rifampin (<0.5 ug/ml) Can you help us?

I’m sorry you are going through this will Lily. These resistant infections can be very frustrating to treat. With infections this severe sometimes topic antibiotic therapy is the only thing that will work. I would recommend continuing the medicated baths as frequently as every other day if you can. On the days you are not bathing her I would recommend using a dilute bleach solution (recipe below) on all the affected areas on her skin twice daily. After you apply the solution allow it to air dry, don’t rinse it off. Do this for at least 2 weeks to get the infection under control. Dilute Bleach for Skin - mix 2 tablespoons of regular chlorox bleach in 1 gallon of water. Pour into a spray bottle and spray over skin liberally. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
