My dog has a red spot on his muzzle. What could this skin growth be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 10 months old | 85 lbs

I let my dog out in the backyard and he came back inside with this red spot on his muzzle. I don’t see him bother It much except for an occasional lick. It just appeared yesterday. Please let me know why this looks like

This appears to be a histiocytoma. If it is, it should resolve on it's own. ( https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4952066 ) I suggest you just monitor it for the next month or so. If it does not resolve or it gets worse, then a vet visit would be warranted.
