Is it wise to add more dogs to my already large dog family?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shihpoo | Female | unspayed

Hi can I ask about dogs?? I have 4 dogs and about to add two more.. I have a male Golden retriever, a Japanese Spitz mix, A blood hound mix and a lab doberman mix.. is it advisable and possible that I can take care of them.. considering we're only a family of four and we have helpers. we've been planning to buy a Malshi and a Shihpoo to our beloved pets and also for breeding business if God wills... Thank you

That’s a lot of dogs! The big things to think about are finances and individual attention. You must be able to plan ahead for accidents and unexpected large expenses. As you know, pet care can be very expensive! If you are at your limit financially, you should probably not get another dog. Also, if something were to happen (hopefully it doesn’t) are you able to devote a lot of attention to one dog and still see that the others have their needs met? Especially as dogs get older, they require supplements, slower walks, assistance with stairs...etc. You want to make sure that you can provide the best life for all of them for as long as you can. I recommend to have an honest conversation with your family before adding more dogs. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
