Why does my dog skip with his back leg without showing pain?

Hello! I’ve recently discover this app and it’s great, so I thought I’d ask this question: I’ve had my dog for a year now, and ever since I got him he’ll sometimes skip while walking (like a little jump with his left back leg), but has never shown any signs of pain. He was a stray dog, so I have no idea what his life was like and if the jumps happened before, but once we asked a vet about this and he said it was normal for a dog like him, but I’m not sure about that so I decided to ask here.

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. Great question! Sounds like he has a luxating patella. I wouldn't say this is normal but it is common in smaller breed dogs. Depending on the severity of the problem surgery may be recommended to correct it. I suggest you consult with an orthopedic specialist for this problem. I have attached an article for you about this issue. Hope this helps. Best wishes. ( https://www.petcoach.co/article/luxating-patella/ )
