My dog's kennel cough is wheezy, breathing heavy. Is that normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 9 years and 4 months old | 66 lbs

My dog was diagnosed with kennel cough and he had a loud hackling cough. We are on day 4 and he is coughing less but it is very wheezy and squeaky. He seems to be breathing heavy too. Is this normal?

This could be part of his kennel cough diagnosis. Rico may be quite congested. Keep an eye on him tonight, and if he's still like this in the morning, have him seen by a vet. Tonight, try taking him into the bathroom with you when you take a shower. The steam may help with any congestion.
